On behalf of the staff at Barnesville High School, I would like to welcome you and your family to the 2023-2024 School Year. We want this school year to be a success for all of our students and will do all that we can to ensure that. We look forward to developing strong home and school partnerships in order to create opportunities for success for our students. Learning is a lifelong process and involves effort from all stakeholders..
At Barnesville, we pride ourselves on a rigorous curriculum based on Ohio’s New Learning Standards. We hold ourselves and our students to a higher standard and our hard work shows. Our students will learn to be collaborative workers, creative thinkers, and self-directed learners, skills that employers all look for in potential employees. Our students’ success is the center of all we do. As our Portrait of a Graduate indicates, we want to ensure our students leave school ready to face whatever challenges come their way and are ready to take on the world in college, the workforce, or the United States Military.
In addition to the core subject areas of English, Math, Science and Social Studies, we offer Project Lead the Way, Spanish, Choir, Band, Art, Graphic Arts, Vocational Agriculture, Culinary Arts, Computer Applications, Physical Education and Health. Elective classes are offered within these areas of study.
Our Athletic programs are in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference (OVAC), one of the largest conferences in the nation. We participate in Golf, Volleyball, Cross Country, Cheerleading, Football, Swimming, Wrestling, Basketball, Baseball, Softball and Track. Many of these sports have won Conference titles and have placed high in State competition both as a team and as individuals.
We encourage students to excel academically and as an athlete, believing the two together make for a more successful, well rounded person in the future with better leadership qualities. To also enhance this experience, students may join school organizations such as, National Honor Society (NHS), Interact, Art Club, Future Farmers of America (FFA), Future Educators of America (FEA), and Key Club.
In order to ensure a positive school climate and to ensure a safe and pleasant learning environment for our students, we have adopted Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) for this school year. Our positive school climate will be focused around the acronym ROCKS, which stands for:
Be Respectful
Be Organized
Be Cooperative
Be Kind
Be Safe
The Parents, Businesses and Community take great pride in their school system. They are actively involved by donating time, energy and resources to help make Barnesville Schools something everyone can be proud of.
Sincerely,
Ron Clark
Principal
