Barnesville Schools Seeking Federal Funding Input

The Barnesville Exempted Village School district is seeking community input regarding the use of federal dollars for Titles I, II-A and IDEA-B. These federal funds supplement the state and local dollars that also provide funding for the district's comprehensive educational services.

Title I funds are used to provide reading/math instructional intervention along with materials and supplies, tutoring services, parent involvement activities and professional development for staff. Title 11A funds reduce class size and provide professional development activities to improve teacher quality. IDEA-B funds are utilized for special education and related services for children with disabilities by supporting unique needs as identified through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Any questions regarding these programs are welcomed. Suggestions regarding the use of these federal dollars should be directed to Mr. Micah Fuchs, Federal Programs Coordinator at 425-3615 extension 3222; [email protected]; or mailed to 210 W. Church St, Barnesville, Ohio 43713 Attn: Micah Fuchs.

Child Find: “A Search for All Children with Disabilities”

Child Find is the process of identifying, locating and evaluating all children from age three to twenty-one who may have a disability and be in need of special education and related services, regardless of the severity of the disability.  The district seeks to identify through child find, all children in the Barnesville School District who attend a public or non-public school in the district or who are homeless or wards of the state who may be in need of special education and related services.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal law that assures children and youth with disabilities a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE).  The Barnesville School District provides a continuum of special education programs and services for preschool and school-age students with disabilities.

A child with a disability is a child having a cognitive disability (e.g. developmental delay), hearing impairment (including deafness), visual impairment (including blindness), a speech  or language impairment, a serious emotional disturbance, an orthopedic impairment, autism, traumatic brain injury, other health impairment, specific learning disability, deaf-blindness, or multiple disabilities.

Parents, relatives, public and private agency employees, and concerned citizens are asked to help the Barnesville School District find any child who may have a disability and need special education and related services.  If you are aware of a child who may have special needs, please notify Mr. Micah Fuchs, Director Special Education at (740) 425-3615 Ext. 3222.
